OUR PATRONS
Mrs Lista Cannon
Without the generous support of Mrs Lista Cannon - Partner in Fulbright & Jaworski International LLP, an International firm of attorneys in the UK, Assist a Learner Trust would have struggled to survive.Once a year Lista meets with us at the Epiphany Service at the Cathedral church of St George the Martyr in Cape Town, where she either hands us loads of stationary, or as was the case in 2008, she provided funds which assisted us to take a grade 7 learner to High School, as we did not have a sponsor for her.
The last 2 years since the inception of Assist a Learner Trust, Lista has participated in the OTMOOR Challange in Oxford to raise funds for assist a learner, and because of her generosity, (for which we will be forever grateful),we have managed to set up a fully equipped office, where we occasionally employ someone to assist us with records and filing, and are able to support learners whose sponsors have withdrawn, untill we are able to find new sponsors.
Dr Pundy Pillay PhD (Oxford)
A highly respected man in the world of Economics in Education, Pundy headed up the Economics Department at the University of Cape Town, then proceeded into the then Vice- President Thabo Mbeki's office, after which he followed Thabo Mbeki into the Presidents office as an economic advisor in Education. Dr Pillay completed his Phd through Oxford University, and is currently an International Consultant Economist working mainly in the poverty stricken countries of Africa
Dr and Mrs Pillay, not only sponsors one of our learners, but have also supported us financially when we have fundraisers to cover the costs of learners whose sponsors has let us down. Their continued support and advice when needed is much appreciated.
