About Us
Who are we?
We are a Trust (Registration Number IT328/97), created to assist academically above average learners from Grade 1 to Grade 7. The Assist a Learner Trust is a totally voluntary organization and was started to assist, uplift and support learners who come from impoverished backgrounds, and yet are academically above average achievers in their respective grades, regardless of their circumstances.
There are a vast number of children in our communities, whose family circumstance prevents them from receiving even the basics of schooling, yet they have managed to rise above these circumstances and are able to achieve excellent results at school (between 70 and 90% on average). These children are continually faced with hardship and poverty. Some of them in dire conditions and sometimes don't even have a slice of bread to fill their empty stomachs. Their lives are plagued by drugs, poverty, unemployment and single parent homes. However, these children still maintain an air of pride, achievement and hopefulness that makes our assistance worthwhile.
What do we do?
With the kind support of both individual and company sponsorship, we assist learners with School fees, uniforms and stationery, no funds is handed over to the school or the parents, the child benefits directly from our assistance. We also endeavor to assist the unemployed parents find work and help upgrade the schools so that in the end everyone benefits
What can you do?
We are requesting, through sponsorship by individuals and businesses, help in assisting them with their schooling needs and we aim to assist the schools as well. Thus not just uplifting a few children, but in the end our hope is to improve the entire school, giving each and every child a school that becomes a safe haven and joy to be in. As Robert H Schuller said: 'For every mountain there is a miracle.' For these children their daily lives is the 'mountain' which they constantly need to climb, please help us, to help them to achieve their ultimate goals.
